“Few people realize that architects are involved in the design and construction of the thrill rides at the Park,” says Architect and Entertainment Design team leader, Arthur Calcaterra, AIA.

Arthur and his team have been working with the Arlington amusement park for more than 10 years. Team members plan and design the ride sites and related structures and for this project, the pool, as well as coordinate all engineers involved.

Founding Principal, Scott Wilson, AIA adds, “Arthur has a special fondness for these projects and a long connection with the Park, having worked there for several years as a teen.”

The first of its kind in North America, Aquaman: Power Wave is the Park’s 14th roller coaster. Unique features include two 150-foot high towers on a 2,000 foot track with a large pool in the middle. A boat of 20 riders is propelled straight down at 90° and 63 mph and back up the other tower, ending in a massive splash into the central pool on the boat's fourth pass over the pool.

“It’s always thrilling to experience the rides and amenities that we helped create, but seeing the park evolve and improve over the years has been equally exciting,” adds Calcaterra.
